There is an NGO, and very worthy it is too, that revels in the name of “No Peace Without Justice”. Their theme resonates with the writings of the Baha’i Faith, which teach that mankind is destined for the “Most Great Peace”, effectively the Kingdom of God on Earth. Not just an end to war, but a time of spiritual and societal peace and tranquility. That, ultimately, is the goal towards which the Neocrats are blogging.
However, before we have such a peace we must, according to the Baha’i Writings, have the “Most Great Justice”, which is the establishment of a social justice worldwide. Where the murderer can no longer blame his upbringing and lack of opportunity, because our society will have ensured he had the best of both. Where the obscene extremes of wealth and poverty will be a distant and barbaric memory. (Is it not currently the case that we effectively think that the life of an African village child is worth 1/1000th that of a fat western brat?)
With this goal in mind, the Neocrats pledge themselves to the establishment of justice as a means to the establishment of peace. And so it is that the Neocratic High Command calls, unequivocally, for the immediate release of Paris Hilton. Having served 3 days of a 45 jail term, it was only right and proper that she be released to allow her to pass the rest of her sentence poolside. But what does it say for due process, for justice and social cohesion if only one day later she is plucked from the bosom of her family and returned, sobbing to jail?
The name of Thailand’s notorious prison, dubbed the Bangkok Hilton by its inmates, suddenly takes on a rather prohpetic and nudg-nudge-wink-wink overtone.
