This morning I made a rookie mistake: I entered a government building with an appointment, but no reading material. Facing an interminable delay in a mismanaged queue, I found a copy of Metro, one of the ‘freesheet’ newspapers popular in London. They are devoid of content and can be read in a moment, if not in sheer negative time: finished before one starts, because it’s all recycled news. But in the event, I was quickly served and amused: here in the Passport Office, the Metro’s headline was
IDENTITY FRAUD UP 70%

    uhm Saleem…do you think it would be better if we got bar-coded chips implanted…but at the risk that identity fraud will still take place…it would literally be a

    Maybe he was standing in the Passport Office and maybe he was practising terseness because he going some place where people are terse.Are you, Saleem ?

    I like the concept of negative time, and in some ways it is true, particularly if you are a regular reader of the Metro; to stop reading it would give you approx 10-20 minutes of free time every day. Jippi!
