Thanks, Saleem! Greetings, friends.
Don’t listen to Mogogo.
I mean, its a fine name, if its your own name. Especially if you had no say in it. But dude, you have all the world to play with here and the most razmataz and inspiring name you can find is Geoffrey?
Good post though.
I’m generally in favour of transparency in journalism (although the Economist still rocks my world), so I chose my real name.
Perhaps my next post will be a survey of preferred noms de plume.
Just out of curiosity I Googled Mogogo — here’s the top hit: http://www.punchdown.org/rvb/mogogo/
It turns out that it’s an Eritrean stove that burns dung.
I’ll stick with Geoffrey.
Oh yes, Geoffrey really pins it down. Fortunate that Geoffrey is such an uncommon name, otherwise we’d never know exactly which Geoffrey we were talking about.
Its dual fuel. Also burns wood.
I just moved to England, my dear friend. It’s understandable that we don’t know each other yet. Just be patient.
That’s enough! Names are not important. Mogogo, I suggest you stop shooting spitballs and turn your attention to Geoffrey’s actual post.
Geoffrey, am I allowed to pronounce your name with a rolled ‘r’, Stewie-style?
Your dung-burning comment is hilarious :):):)
Why not “Geoffrey”, huh?! We all create an identity for ourselves, and for some, their real self, the face the real people they meet each day know, matters more than an avatar. (I chose “nemoDreamer” because that is who I really am, and that is how most people know me. Type it in google, the entries are all me. It’s my job-title, my networking identity. Its presence on Neocrats is one of its facets.)
Geoffrey is a real-life journalist? This is one of his facets, not a place where he can post silly spitballs without anyone knowing who he is.. So respect that.
ouch. high-and-mighty. sorry, but i’m hitting submit.
hi Geoff, very interesting first post!
Good point nemoD, but when i first heard your name, without knowing what you are about(and still not really) I thought about nemo from Finding Nemo. What does nemo mean? Online names can create first impressions.
now, about me, I was thinking about a new pen name…how about Angela…after Angela Lansbury from Murder She Wrote, famous for her quiet unassuming nature, her calm disposition…i am inspired by her astuteness, efficiency and overall lovability.
…what do you guys think?
Sanisha, stay with “Sanisha”!!! It’s great and it works! Angela sounds like you’re some Manga fan-boy… :(
About “Nemo”: Captain Nemo, from Vernes “20.000 lieues sous les mers” would have been closer (of course that’s who the Pixar-fish is named after)
But my particular Nemo is Windsor McKay’s “The Adventures of Little Nemo in Slumberland”, a long out of print newspaper-format weekly comic that introduced the concept of using the FORM of a comic to perform a FUNCTION in the narrative. Amazing Art-Nouveau constructions on paper, weird tales, and a little Nemo who wakes up from his dreams on every bottom right-hand frame.

aaaah…i see now, so much more colourful than i imagined, and much cooler than the Pixar fish.
Manga fan-boy I am not :)
ok then how about Angela as in Angela Merkel…so it would be pronounced like Angle-uh.
…whaddaya think about guys ?
/i meant-what do you think about that guys/
the question is: what does Angela Merkel think about guys? not too much, i’m afraid…
how about “Teniqua” or “Lafawnduh”?
Lawfunduh ?
no nemo.
Its dead, I killed it, it is now Angela’s Ashes.
Thank you everyone for coming to the funeral.
Welcome Geoffrey. And what a wonderful name, if I may be so bold as to state. Different yes, but wonderful all the same. I especially love that it’s not Jeffrey.
Thank you for enlightening me on the meaning of Mogogo. How apt.
I enjoyed your first posting, by the way. And as the call was raised by one Saleem, let’s band together to bring the crat back.
