I first heard of Waziristan in northern Pakistan (where al Qaeda is now regrouping) during an editorial meeting at The Economist, one year ago. Waziristan has periodically surfaced in my reading since then, but tonight it’s the leading piece in ABC’s nightly news programme. This tells us two things: the chaps at The Economist have a year-long lead on developing stories, but it’s not news until it’s on ABC.

    That is an interesting observation.

    Is it?

or perhaps it means that some media overlord finally decided the American people were ready to learn one more geographical region this year and sanctioned ABC to mention it.

Yesterday, ABC made brain injuries sustained in battle/war the topic du jour - literally. Seemed like everytime I passed a telly, over a 8 hour period, Bob Woodruff was either on it, or being quoted, or referenced. ABC knows no subtlety.
