Some of these new whiz-bang features are going to get us into trouble. They expose our inanity, they show that we are all emperors wearing new clothes. Look at the Most Popular display: this feature shows the most-commented posts. And so, if you look to the comments themselves, they show us engaged in nonsensical mud-slinging and bizarre ritualistic dance. They are not cogent and meditative consultations. They are monkeys throwing peanuts at one another!

Further, the Cloud gives an abstracted display of what are the most-discussed topics on the Neocrats. But rather than use tags, it seems to use the full content of the posts. Thus, there are some odd inclusions; for example, “great”. Clearly we are using this word as an adjective far too often, and so my edict is that we should all refrain from using “great” as an adjective, at least until “cool” or “extraordinary” have a chance to catch up.

  1. Sanisha says:

how about a map showing where we all are? that would be cool, but not extraordinary.

  2. Original Sin says:

It would be extraordinary if by clicking on a location, you would be taken there.

  3. nemoDreamer says:

Then let the cloud and popularity encourage you to better prose and behavior :)
    GREAT!

  4. Sanisha says:

nemoD, that is too techie for me, plz explain…and type slowly because I am not a fast reader.

  5. Saleem says:

nemoD is basically saying that if we fear our silliness being constantly regurgitated by the popularity and frequency motors that have been added as part of Neocrats 2.0, then we should raise up the standard of what we say, rather than censor the machine.

  6. Sanisha says:

oh, yes, that is true!i have blushed many times reading some things i have said.

    gulp.

but, there is a little secret here, that the neocrats and other readers may not know…

    There is/was Oscar de Clavier…and

Anyone can pose as Oscar, do you realise that? anyone with a fake email adress.

but then, no one would resort to that because no one should be feeling silly about saying somthing in the first place, and neither would anyone have anything silly to say, i hope.

  7. Mogogo says:

    The Outing of Oscar.

Yes, its true, Oscar is a pen name. A nom de plume. But seeing as we are living in a post-plume age, (plumage?) his is a keyboard name. Or, in French, nom de clavier.

However, only the other Neocrats can post as Oscar as a ‘mains’ or ‘extras’ post.

Oscar is the voice of the people, or, sometimes, the voice that dare not speak its name.

  8. Saleem says:

    What happened to the Cloud?!

  9. nemoDreamer says:

Ok, I put it back. I wasn’t sure if it was a really necessary feature, now that we have highest rating, most rated and most commented.
    True, it’s an interesting general-theme-o-graph…

  10. Saleem says:

I volunteer to tag all past posts, so that we can switch to a tag-based cloud and make it far more interesting and useful.
