Did you know that there are thirteen different versions of the electric socket? They are used in four different combinations of voltage and hertz. There are six billion people across two-hundred and fourteen countries that live within this mash of plugs and power levels. Our work is not complete.

I would be surprised if the entire world’s population live within reach of an electric socket, although a liberal interpretation of your post would conclude that simply living within a boundry covered by a wire carrying electricity would qualify, even though that boundry could be far from reach.

So, friends of Frank, how *do* you work this thing?

  2. Marshn says:

I’ve always thought that the world could at least agree on one type of electric socket. I’m guessing though that some wars will be fought over which one is the best.

  3. Saleem says:

OS, nice Ze reference. Marsha - Brady Bunch reference, there - plural wars, that’s great. I think so. Trade wars.

  4. Sanisha says:

izzit my imagination or did someone change the word mesh to mash, i must say i prefer mesh, it does not sound so bad, i don’t know what but that word stuck with me….so, only thirteen!..luckily there are the universal adaptors…problem solved for the time being anyway.

Imagine trying to get the world to use the same reference coordinate system so that when we go to war with Martians then at least we will all be on the same page if you know what i mean.

  5. Saleem says:

We do have the same coordinates system, surely: longitude and latitude. Meanwhile “izzit” is banned on the Neocrats - the words are “is it” - meanwhile “mesh” and “mash” don’t mean the same thing! Only coherent comments, please.

  6. Sanisha says:

absolutely Saleem, mesh and mash do not mean the same thing …for the sake of coherence though I think that mash as a word should be reserved for pulpy things like food whereas mesh is a word better suited to electricity ?

Geomatics 101… there there is lat long, which is always the same when you use a GPS because that uses the same (NASA) satellites, and so the same reference datum is assumed, however, if and when Galileo (european) and other (India and China) start using their own Global Positioning /Navigation System it is quite possible that they would have a different reference datum which with GPS, is a particular sized spheroid/ellipsoid called WGS84.

…but there is also problems when projecting this 3D object in space onto a 2D plane to create a map.At the moment there are different parameters and mapping systems used, which could explain some incomplete highways ‘hanging’ in mid air where engineering made many bungles by assuming that the same system was being used by everyone ( i hope the word bungle exists and is allowed :)

if you want to see more in wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longitude_and_latitude

it says In other words, the same exact point on the earth’s surface will be expressed by different latitude and longitude values, depending on the reference datum

  7. Marshn says:

Marsha??? I think I would like the giving Maruška multiple niknames to stop, specially if it will be a Brady Bunch reference. Brady Bunch???? I might be blond and blueeyed but the refrence stops there!

  8. Saleem says:

    “Marsha Marsha Marsha!”

  9. Marshn says:

    Isn’t the name spelt diffrently?

  10. Saleem says:

    Er, yes. Marcia.

  11. Sanisha says:

    Mesh Mesh Mesh
