I came across a grim phrase today, whilst reading a piece on the Guardian’s comments blog - click here - about abortion. Now, putting aside all the highly contentious positions, the phrase itself disturbs me. Foetus fetishists. Are you a foetus fetishist?

do you know how old is the writer /zoe williams ?
She sounds like a newbie herself . tsk tsk.
Bad choice of words , there are better ways.

how do you think this would this sound to her
    > Pro choice supporters are zygote zombies.

actually i wish to take that back, because i can , and because I may be pro choice myself, i dont know !!!!

I would like to clarify, maybe we have to be pro choice to be anti abortion. For example > I was talking to a friend who is a fan of Olive Schreiner, for those that do not know, she was a revolutionary feminist and author in the late 1800’s and her book “The Story of an African Farm” was published before she was age 30. She even used overtly racist standpoint to justify her cause, according to wikipedia :

Schreiner’s life and writing provide invaluable exposure to both the latter stages of the colonialist movement in South Africa and one vigilant woman’s discourse against late nineteenth-century, early twentieth-century imperialism, war, and oppression of women. Despite this, her works abound with overtly racist representations of Africans. In “The Story of an African Farm” characters repeatedly describe their servants as ‘niggers’ and ‘animals.’ Indeed, Schreiner’s call for women’s liberation depended on her belief in the savagery on non-Europeans; in her view, gender equality would become the mark and guarantee of European cultural and biological superiority. Claiming humanity and rationality for women meant denying it to Africans. In this way she is typical of the complex generation of late nineteenth centuty European intellectuals, who combined what we would describe as ‘enlightened’ views on gender and sexuality with virulent rascism.

so…Perhaps by supporting people who have had abortions will make more concrete the idea of the existence and the dignity of the human soul.

    Sanisha has dialogued with herself.
