A progressive jihad? A full frontal assault on meekness? A battle for neocracy, against everything that we are not?

The scouts are not sure what you need to know. Help up help you.

With the mentions of the battle that were made in The House, there is no defeat for you in this battle, whatever the ostensible outcome.

16:57. More mundane. I speak of career path! And the neocratic friends are giving me the chance to put a frame on the passage of these last few hours. You do really to need to download Sharokh's album from iTunes in order to experience this. And play it on good speakers.

17:08, To play the second of Liszt's Transcendental Studies a few times exerts the muscles and directs the rage. Then you can think, open the lid of a Powerbook and try once more.

19:02, a very demoralising experience with a failing candidate. Her parents are unaware of culture and what it means but want exam success!

But 30 minutes free in which to eat a ciabatta dipped in a north african paste, followed by more preparation.

Will the warrior stammer?

20:12, another cancelled appointment! This one was for 60 minutes and so freedom comes, but at a price. Being busy keeps the fear away.

I reach, I guess, for a tome of ardour.

Really, people...what is it called when the self-indulgent over-indulge? Is it self -over-indulgence or over self-indulgence? Or is it just splitting hairs? Time's running out. Air's warm, water's getting hot and the oil's running out. You are passengers on the longest, biggest and slowest slow-motion train-wreck in recorded history. The driver and the conductors are lying and cheating to try and get off with the big 'stash' in the mail-car while some of us sit around writing an homage to HP. Lovecraft! Do something useful like taking down the names of all those who must be held accountable for the wreckage we will shortly find ourselves in. Fasten your seat-belts, ladies and gentlemen, we're in for a very bumpy and breathless ride and not everyone is going to make it.

Hannibal, what is this conflagration of which you speak? Every so often even the missionaries of the new world need to rest, make stupid jokes, and seek confirmation for their foibles and quirks. This is the Neocrats, after all; this is a common room; in common rooms, people rest and play and study and argue and drink and burp.

21:21, Whither David Blaine?

A car-trip with Lahut and the procurement of some paper.

Lahut eats pitta bread.

I apologise to Hannibal, verily. But I will see this battle through.

May is the most verdant month, the ecstasy of birdsong, but already it begins to fade and I feel that I have not seen it!

Everone's a ticket they bought with their jobs, children, marriages and friendships. Everyone has a ticket. Some first-class, some second and mostly third..poor old third. Bad service, barely acknowdged, barely fed with a barely a life saving libation to save them. Each of them hoping that if they get off at the right stop it it'll be the right stop for them Escape from the wreck. Trick is though, that it's a one way trip. Our course has been set (sounds more like a boat now) with makes the allegory all the more poignant. We need to find out who the train-wreckers are their idenities and the indentities of their familes. Know whwre they live can get the mony back and give to where it's needed most. The law no longer works. LIVE OUTSIDE THE LAW. Read as much as you can and learn to survive the next10-15 years. You're children will thank you for it.
Buddha will be proud of us.

23:01, 50 minutes of television was diverting. But I again staggered. Think of the scale of difference between the two paths which lie before me. Two entirely different lifestyles and I am unable make the decision for myself. I am at the whim of others. Entirely.

And yes, Hannibal, this is self-indulgence of an unparalleled kind. Perhaps this is the point. Take the blog to the limit, make a record number of comments upon one's own post and perhaps we will get to the true nature of the blog.

Or maybe, as Saleem says, this is just a burp. At any rate, I vow that once this final battle reaches its conclusion I will never repeat this process.

12 Hours till the final assault.

I briefly scanned that blog, and I am largely unconvinced. His attempt to pin faith on atheists was vague and badly written, so it did not come through very clearly, and anyone who has the sheer self-regard to be involved with another blog called Samizdata ("samizdat" is the underground publishing of literature banned by the state, which is rather more acclaim than any western writings can hope for, these days; and no, Sina, I didn't look it up) is probably more pretentiously convinced of their superiority than even the Neocrats. To cite Dorian Gray's inaugural comment, it is superciliousness alone, not superiority.

23rd May, 09:00
Read ceefax and had the coffee. Its amazing how one can force oneself not to think about certain things. I have been awake for 20 minutes and have not yet considered the battle.

And mogogo is right. The Babcom should be used.

Lahut sings folksongs in a nearby room.

Sanisha, it is not meet and seemly to describe oneself as intelligent.

I prefer to be a simpleton.

Check out what's written about today, 'the early light of the true morn.'

Better get talking on the Babcom!

23rd May, 0957

a shower, to be followed by trip to shop to buy fruits.

Fruit, the most natural food given by Great White Spirit to primates.
Man, the techno-primate, uses tech to make smoothie.

Smoothie, the most perfect natural food for the techno-primate.

I will leave for battle in 70 minutes.

Two things.

1. There are better, cheaper and larger collections of music than iTunes. See for instance http://www.allofmp3.com
(and yes, it is legal)

2. So you have a job interview, big deal, do you know how many of those Sal has had? (Oh wait, did I just diss Sal too?)
/Annoyed at the 30 posts just being Sarmad himself

Smoothies are indeed excellent. Your battle will be glorious, victory is now or in eternity, but yours regardless. I will sample Octet by Reich; I have been long consumed by Glass, but it's perhaps time to branch out.

I haven't had that many interviews; and perhaps they haven't flowered into jobs (not that I wanted those jobs; not that I should be choosy) because I haven't engaged in this kind of pre-fight prep. "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee: rumble, young man. Rumble."

23 May, 10:39

Apologies to all those annoyed by my over-indulgence. I make promises to you!

A final discussion of strategy with Lahut. Shield is donned, sword scabbered, chariot summoned.

We make our final approach to the field of blood.

Hannibal, here I am.

My impression was that these days most people were sitting in the middle class, between first and third; and all of those in the second have been effectively duped into thinking that, give or take, they're actually alphas. So here is the illusion of the west: we're all rich. But it's rubbish. We get to feel rich because we buy more TVs then previously, and computers are cheaper, and we have mobile phones. Pesto; etc. But it's New Subsistence: you can't be western without a minimum of material hooks to hang on.

Herein comes your idea of living outside the law; interesting from someone who works in a court. Anyway, it depends whether we're defining law as Kafka-esque The Law or whether it's the looser law of the jungle; what is expected, what you need to get by in this world. At any rate yes, it's possible that the subsequent decades will unravel very quickly and some new force will smash Steve Jobs' big glass cube in New York; it wouldn't be the first time they smashed stuff there.

No one is guarding the guards, you'll say, and that's the problem. But surely we needn't distrust the guards, that's a distraction: we must distrust ourselves.

Neocrats are hung between great trust and distrust of their own task; hence we argue and burp.
