Some of you might be taken aback by Eric’s post, entitled “Farewell”. If you’re not a Bahá’í, then all the talk of spiritual assemblies, martyrdom and life-blood is doubtless alien, perhaps even verging on the armies of virgins promised to suicidal terrorists.

Do not let vocabulary distract you. Terrorists kill; ‘Abdu’llah Mogharrabi was killed. Martyrdom is a simple word: it is murder motivated by the victim’s religious beliefs. That Mr. Mogharrabi’s home was not robbed substantiates the claim that he was executed because he was a Bahá’í, and for no other reason. As for spiritual assemblies, you could call them synods or councils, and be saying the same thing.

In the British parliament there is an elegant phrase for expressing support. “I wish to associate myself with the remarks of my Honourable Friend,’ an MP will say. Eric is speaking out against the injustices growing in Iran against all religious minorities, especially Bahá’ís, and he has graced his protest with a personal gift.

I wish to associate myself with the remarks of my honourable friend.

  2. Eric says:

Saleem, I wish you were around all the time to explain what I’m trying to say to other people.

  3. Saleem says:

It would backfire, people don’t understand me either. It’s possible that the deficiency is in ourselves.
